Role
To improve and support the various processes within the manufacturing and production departments through analytical means and engineered solutions. The successful candidate will lead process design and implementation and observe and analyse existing processes to improve capability, up time and quality.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the wider manufacturing and production engineering team, delivering technical support and development to production processes, working closely with the manufacturing, assembly, production, and quality teams.
Main Duties
Observe and analyse production and assembly processes, identify opportunities to improve process capability, improve assembly efficiencies and reduce down time
Project management of continuous improvement initiatives/projects, from research to presenting findings for approval to senior management
Identify and deliver cost savings
Lead process design and implementation, including the procurement and justification of new production technology
Help to develop a Lean Manufacturing culture within production and engineering teams and the wider business
Lead or assist with the creation and development of improvement plans
Coordinate relevant training and guide teams through process changes
Comply with H&S policies and drive and promote safe working in the manufacturing and assembly areas
Key Competencies
Demonstrated project and time management skills, including a track record of creating plans and meeting deadlines
The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic, well rounded engineer with good attention to detail
Proven ability to balance multiple, competing priorities
Be a confident and clear communicator able to work with people at all levels from shop floor to senior management
Skills and Experience
Must have an in-depth knowledge of manufacturing and mechanical assembly processes
Proven experience of lean manufacturing principles
Good statistical knowledge – able to apply statistics to process improvement
A thorough understanding of CAD modelling, ideally Solidworks
Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
Strong problem solving and fault finding ability
A good Six Sigma understanding and root cause analysis skills
Qualifications
Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline, preferably with manufacturing engineering
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a precision manufacturing environment with experience of mechanical assembly processes, machinery improvements, process improvements, continuous improvements, and lean manufacturing
